i look alone / buzzcocks

snagged this one from the great 1981 compilations. it’s rad. i’m pretty bad when it comes to talking about music, aren’t i?

also: started up a new tumblr for my poems. i’m trying to decide on the blogging platform to stick with: blogger is better for archiving and commenting, but i just modified a pretty pimp tumblr. i used livejournal for ages, but the ads drove me nuts. you decide what works best, then let me know.

all of a sudden / b.t.p. folders

this one gets stuck in your head. another band that disappeared. i don’t have a clue what “b.t.p.” stands for, but this is catchy as all hell. reminds me of a more genuine version of the futureheads.

prettiest girl / club wow

club wow was only around for three years before promptly disappearing. this is one i dug up on the modpoppunk archive site, so there isn’t much hope of finding more by them.

ghost of a chance / the blades

pop music isn’t always happy music, just catchy. this is catchy.

glow in the dark / the bongos

the bongos are adorable. another hoboken group that knew how to make charming pop music. “drums along the hudson” is a fantastic album - check out their t. rex cover of mambo sun.

x offender / blondie

blondie needs no introduction, but i’d just like to confess my undying love for debbie harry. with blondie, she was able to incorporate a host of different musical genres, releasing album after album of new and unpredictable music and achieving incredible mainstream success. plus, she’s gorgeous.

astral glamour / the homosexuals

the homosexuals’ one and only full length is a must-have. apparently, they’ve reformed to some extent and are trying to release new stuff, but i’m not sure when it’s due. i think they’re a great example of a band that you can hear how much they enjoyed making music in their songs. favorite line: “say goodbye to telephone sex.”

celebrity art party / the embarrassment

another track that i think sounds as good today as it ever did. “blister pop” sounds about right. if anyone knows where to find more stuff by these guys, the tip would be appreciated.

respectable street / xtc

it sounds as if xtc recorded this yesterday, it’s that fresh. much love for andy partridge.
